Well Loged into Gmail today to see a great NEW feature. Gmail Custom Time. It lets you post emails from the past.

Well I got my Full License.

IT did take me a couple of years to get my Learners then 8/9 years to get my Restricted then 4 months for my full.

Which all in turn now means that I get a Work Car. A 2008 ES Mitsubishi Lancer Wagon 2.4l.

Well I was looking at my laptop and through I do not know the last time I booted into windows. So I was think I can formate it and get some more space. So a formating I go. Then upon reboot I got a nice little message saying "OS Missing". Oh this is not a good thing. Then I start to think for the first time and went oh yea, I just messed up grub.

So looking the internet to find someone as smart than me who knows how to fix it and then I found this. A great guild of how to get GRUB working again. Well it got me back up and going.

Ubuntu 7.10

Well I have upgrade my laptop from Ubuntu 7.04 to Ubuntu 7.10 and it has all worked well. In the past I have had problems with the Battery and my wireless card.

Having started with Red Hat then given up on that After having going throw RPM hell. I move to Debian because Bob told me too. I finally moved to Ubuntu.
I have been using Ubuntu since Ubuntu 4.10 which was a change from Debian. Ubuntu is biased on Debian and uses the same deb package management system but use brown for every thing.

Ubuntu is an distribution that I am happy to give to friends as it work easily and with the latest version (7.10) is very easy for a new person to pick up and start to use.

So go download Ubuntu 7.10 and enjoy

Managed 93km last month. Rather pleased with that.

They have gym on the coast which has concpet2 PM3.

So I am hoping to get to do some rowing over there keep up the Km's.

I am up 271km so should hit 333km. So I should get to 1/3 of the way this month.

Well I have made one milestone. 1/4 of the way there. Rather pleasing. Had to do a 10km row today to get there. This month I have done 82Km so with another week I should add another 28Km.

Not bad for a fat man.

I have been looking at these pants from Cactus. Dave has got the shorts and they can stand up by them selfs. I think they sound rather cool. the first pair of pants that might last. The nice thing is they are made here in Christchurch so nice to support locale stuff

Well it is official I am now old. I had to go see the accountant. Well that is to say I now have an accountant. So I am feeling I might have to start growing up. Oh well. It was bound to happen one day.

Well I have just got my own Rowing Card. So when I make a run for it too the coast I can go to the gym there and still keep count of my rowing. Which will be nice, should keep the fat bastardness down. Only have 37km till I get to 250Km or a quarter of the way. I have been trying to increase from 7km a night to 10km. I have found this to rather hard. Those extra 3km really kill me.

I was bitching to Bob. About a missing feature in glchess. I have wanted a undo button. So he foolishly told me to do it myself. So far all I have added is the button to the gui. There is not alot behind it yet. I am hoping to add a few bugs to bobs code and have my undo work. This should take me not more than 6 months. Really depends on how many bugs I think I should add.

Well after spotting Bob's comment on Google Analytics. So I had a look at my own. I first found out that no one was reading this dribble probably a good thing really.

Then I notice some thing. The google seach bit. It tells you what someone typed in to get to your site.

Now Twaddle and Hamish I can see those bring people to me. Openoffice and Rowing I can see that too sure I have made comment on those. But the one I can not see is "skimpy swimwear". The poor bastard that was looking for skimpy swimwear and getting my shit site. Oh well learn them good.

Chuck Norris Kicks Ass

Chuck has written a nice piece on "If I am elected president". Looks like there would be alot of ass kicking.

I hit 200Km last night. Hoping to hit 250km by the end of the month.

If I can keep this rate up I will be happy and maybe a butt load fitter or at least better at the self CPR stuff people talk about. Which is a load of sheep's balls. Personally I am all for running around wildly and waiting for the blood to run out of my head.

Taken a whole lot of photos of a work mates Harley . Turned out nice. He had done the paint job himself and a whole lot of mods.

Dave is a Bad Bad Man

Well his rowing machine is. The memory card on it has a limit and instead of doing some thing smart like dropping off the oldest row, it just drops the person lowest down on the list off. So as I was the last one to be add to the card it drops my data first. So I have not lost all of my data becasue I have been copying it off. But I have lost 6 days of rowing, which is a pain as I had some good rows. It also drops my monthly totals. So I have to do a bit og guess as to how much I have rowed this month. Not happy. I will now have to make a effort to download my stats each night.

Oh well enough of a rant.

I have hat 180Km. So doing well I was thinking I should keep track of total Metres rowed, Could be nice to see it going up.

Well we have been kicked out of Elizabeth St. Got 6 Weeks to find a new place. Rather a pain. Paul is busy looking for a new place. At least we can not get a much shitter place than the one we have. It might neven be better all going well.

As you may or may not be able to see. I have been improving on the 5K rows but the 2K I am not looking so good. I have been keeping all the stats in Openoffice. It has been kind of fun seeing all the numbers. I can see it is going to be hard to pull my 2K line down and make it look like the 5K line.

Just to give you some idea of how I am doing the open mens indoor world record is 5:37.0 for 2K

Rob Waddell has a time of 5:38.3. So my best time of 7:44.58 is just a little of the pace oh well

Getting There

Well managed to get to 150Km so far and have managed 60km this month. So I am rahter pleased.

I have now started watching Red Sonja another great Arnold Schwarzenegger classic.

Well after writing some rather poor and slow vbscript to clean up some data before putting it into a database. I thought I could come up with a post.

Well have just hit 130Km on the rowing machine. I should get to 50Km this month. The fact I had a week off on the coast has not helped. I got bored over there and have come up with a whole lot of graphs tracking heart rate and speed and a whole lot of other metrics.

I will hopefully get around to putting some up when I get some data. The only problem is it takes ages to row enough get enough data to see a trend.

Have also stolen Em's TV and DVD player to sit in front of the Rower so I can now watch lots of very poor tv/movies on it.

Been watching Raw Deal a very good movie. It is a high class Arnold Schwarzenegger

Well I have found another thing NZ is slipping on atheism. Yes that is right Atheism. We are ranked a lowley 29th. Only 20-22% of us are Atheists.

So just like the brain drain all our good people are leaving to places like Sweden Vietnam Denmark Norway.

Stuck at Work

Well stuck at work trying to finish off a job that I have to have done by tomorrow. I am setting up a Honeywell DVM 200.2 which I have to say I do not know much about but am learning rather quickly. I just hope I do not fuck up to badly.

It is just a win2k Pro box a Dell GX270. 512 ram with a pair of 500Gb SATA Samsungs. Way under spec'ed but hey just adds to the fun.

The DVM software does have some cool bits to it Object Track. It looks for moving objects then tracks them. It works alright in the office, but appears to shit its self in the dark a bit. Can not wait to get it up a pole and see how it goes. Get to spend a couple of days running about seeing if I can get past it. I will be the first person in NZ to set it up or use it. So it could be a big shit. Man I am hoping it won't be.

Security is rather intersting. It is one of these jobs if we have a bit more monies we could do a better job. But every one is being cheap.

Well this job is going to be a matter of how much money I lose for the company. It was rather under sold.

Well I have been playing with Base some more. I have managed to do all but one of the things I wanted.

The one thing I could not get working right was getting the correct value out of an automatically filled in field. I am thinking I was doing something wrong. So I just added another field and I have to type in the number. but otherwise does every thing automatically from the one button.

I have to say with out all the sample code and the forums I would have not had a chance.

OpenOffice Base

Well I have been using OpenOffice for a while now. I have been larning Base which is the Open Office equliavent of Access from M$. It does have a few bugs. One where it keeped crupting my database which was a real bitch. Otherwise it is not to bad.

For someone like me who knows nothing about databases I have managed to create a rather workable wiht out to much fuss.

The big thing I like about it is I can use it any where, well any where OpenOfffice can run. so I can take it to work and run it on Windows and take it home again and use it under linux.

Well AACS has been crack for the moment. That is the encyption system used all all the HD-DVD's and I think Blu-Ray. I think it went fastter then DeCSS used in DVD's.

Intersting to see what happens wiht the encryption as I believe they can revoke broken Keys.

Cheese Cake

Well a work mate Lynne gave me this cheese Cake recipe and it is good. Em's made some last night and it was rather tasty. Lynne calls it her "wolverine" cheese cake as people wolf it down.

Here it is:

Base
1/2 lb Plain biscuits (round wines) crushed or 1 pack minus 6 biscuits
110gs Butter melted

Filling
2 eggs
500g Cream Cheese (Full Cream)
1 1/4 Sugar

Mix crushed biscuits and melted butter together to form base. Line tin with base.

Mix eggs, Cream cheese and Sugar together till it is runny. Add Flavour to filling.
Place filling into base.

Cook in oven for 30mins at 150C

Cool for a 2/3 hours until filling has set.

Eat

Be fat.

Man Wii kick ass.

They are the coolest thing out. The Wiimotes take just just a second and they become second nature. Wii Sports (the one that comes with the console) is great it is rather hard work.

It has become a weight loss program and it looks like Nintendo is working on some thing.

Well after a few rounds of boxing and I was a sweaty beast.

I have tried the original xbox. The controls toke me a while to figure out and I never got used to it. The Wii on the other hand you can just pick it up a few minutes waving the Wiimote around and you have it sorted.

Sound what I think about it in a feel months time.

Ubuntu install.exe

Found this yesterday. It is a Ubuntu image as an .exe so just copy it into windows and run the installer. It is still very much in Alpha/Beta. You have 2 options.

1) A 1.5Mb installer which downloads the packages with torrent.

2) 600Mb disk image which has all the packages, Baiscly an install CD as an .exe.

Could not be easier.

Well have to get home and play with gtkpod.

It is a rather cool Ipod client for Linux. I am hoping I can get the Album art with it.

The other cool one is mt-daap.

mt-daapd is a program which acts as an iTunes (DAAP) server for Linux. So you can have one server with all your music and share it out to the clients. It can also share playlists. It works with other players not only iTunes but Rythembox , MythTv and Winamp with a plugin.
